Caring for our Neck & Chin

Have you ever thought about looking good but yet we constantly think that we have round faces (double chin) and rough neck? Hoping that we have sharper chin or face contour?? I also wanted that and recently did some research and try it for myself!

Preserving the appearance of a long, graceful column isn't only about vanity. Like other anti-aging ploys, some of the effort you put into keeping your neck as youthful as possible will also help you stay well and fit in general.

6 Proven ways to promote a slim & sleek neckline:

1) Treat your neck as well as you treat your face

When you apply moisturiser to your face, don't forget your neck too! Use gentle upward strokes to avoid creating sagging skin. The same technique works for putting on foundation and sunscreen, Before bed, remove make-up and the day's grime with a good cleanser. Choose the softest tissues you can find and again, swipe from the base of your neck up to your chin.

Tips: Use Bryan's Anti-aging SunScreen SPF 25 during the day on face evenly as well as your neck area. At night, apply Sandalwood powder & mix on your neck & slight massage and leave it for 3 minutes. Next, wash off with warm water.

2) Practice good posture

Slouching over your computer is always a bad habit that we always have.. Make certain time to sit up straight & walk tall. (Traditional way of practicing walking while balancing a book on your head really does teach you how to stop slumping).

3) Exercise for a swanlike image

A simple and effective stretch to keep your neck almost wrinkle-free is to raise your chin as far up as possible and count to 10. Then relax and repeat several times. This is also an affective stress reliever in the middle of the work day.

Another good method for achieving a supple and firm neck is to lower your chin and then circle your head all the way around to the right. Next, repeat to the left. Then repeat the sequence 5 times.

4) Wear scarves to ward of weather damage

As S'pore always experiencing Summer all year round, don't let your guard down when it comes to shielding your neck from the sun's rays. In addition to sunscreen, tie on a pretty scarf. Apply some sun-block (Bryan's Anti-aging SunScreen SPF 25) against the harmful UV ray.

5) Avoid unhealthy food

One of the first places fat accumulates is on our chin hence we will develop & also known as double chin & that's also where it disappears first. If you gain and lose weight only to gain and lose again, you will be stretching your skin and then leaving it loose. Now you have one more good reason for consistently healthy eating.

6) Sleep slightly propped up

If you lie flat on your back, your chin will be pushed toward your chest. This position will undo all the beneficial effects of the stretching you did during the day. Be careful to place pillows not only under your head put also under your shoulders so you get a lift that keeps you properly aligned.

Runner & IT bands (Article by SQY)

Article by Singapore Queen of Yoga which she will appear on July Seminar, have you registered?

In the recent years, running is getting very popular in Singapore.

If you are one of the regular runners, often suffer from the tightness caused by over-stressing & overusing the leg muscles. This tension limits your ranges of motion and can lead to injuries.

The iliotibial (IT) band is a tough group of fibers that run along the outside of the thigh. It functions primarily as a stabilizer during running & can become irritated from overuse & inflamed.

Runners usually describes pain on the outside part of the knee or lower thigh, often worsened by going up or down stairs, or getting out of a car.

To relief the tightness of this muscle, practice this pose will work on the outer hip, & stretch this muscle and it is also a deep hip opening pose.

Tips: Before I go run, I will apply direct lavendula and marjoram a drop on knee and ankle[fights inflammations and relax muscles elasticity] . After run, at night, I will use 3 oil method (www.bryanomhealth.blogspot.com) massage legs. It makes whole lots of different.

Beginner :Be gentle with yourself, and go no further than your hip and groin muscles can afford. While you are learning this posture, you can put a block or towel under the hip of the front leg. The aim is to keep the hips even so give your body the support it needs to express the pose. Always keep your hip square (do not tilt your hip!)

Advanced: To go deeper, you can slowly bring your elbows on the floor & follow by the chest down. Stretch out your both arms to the front on the floor.

 Notes :
  • Stay in the pose for about at least 3 mins with your eye closed.
  • A drop of lavender oil on palm rub warm and press ur your forehead (印堂)for 10 seconds & inhale & exhale deep to your chest.
  • Listen to your body & stopping when the muscles begin to start gripping & contracting.
{ When doing this stretching, you try put healing trees oil on bottom of feets, u can feel the different too}
Once the time is up, at the end of 3 mins or more, you might be surprised to find yourself much deeper than when you've started!

Fresh Oil Arrival:
Lavendula Vera $28
Marjoram $38
Healing Trees $45

Qi Flow - Upper Body

Looking around & observing people when travel by MRT / buses / public places, more than half of the crowd are looking at their smartphone including kids!

Are you one of them?  Frankly, I am!

First GUARD yourself with

Cotton/ tissue : 1 drop lavendula, 1 drop lemon and 1 drop peppermint. This combination protect a person's QI and boost immune system .

www.omhealth.com for oil details;

When looking at the phone (playing game, checking emails etc), the head is bending down.  If we stay in this position for long time, the back of the neck follow by the shoulder will get tighter & stiff.

The bad energy (Qi) will trap in our upper part of body after looking at the computer or phone for long. There are may postures to open our shoulder and release the tension & allow proper blood flow (Qi flow) to the upper part of the body all the way to our finger tips

Wall Plank

gaiam-back-wall-plank

Steps by Steps :
  • Drop Bryan's 5 elements oils on the wrist & rub them together. Place your wrist near your nose & inhale softly with your eyes closed. Serious case can add healing trees oil at base of foot.
  • Stand in front of a wall at arm’s length. Reach forward from your shoulders and place your palms on the wall, fingers wide open, middle fingers pointing straight at the ceiling.
  • Firm your fingers into the wall & spine parallel to the floor & folding wrist. Eventually you’ll come to an L-shape as seen here.
  • Slowly let go your head & it will naturally move forward (like hanging).
  • Feel the gravity pulling your body weight down to the floor & getting heavy.  Sensation slowly coming from the shoulder blade & upper body including your fingers. Some may also feel the back of your legs (for tight hamstring)
  • If you can’t get there today without feeling pain or rounding in the lower back, bend your knees and maintain the proper spinal alignment.
  • When into the pose, close your eyes & hold it for min 3 minutes depending your endurance level
Cautions :
When releasing from pose, do it very slowly to allow the blood moving downwards from the head after holding forward for a while.

Enjoy ! And this posture improve skin radiance. Do it after hydrating mask omhealth is extremely good.

Simple acupoints to swear by

Bryan Laoshi has shared many knowledge in his East Meets West class.

To recap for his students and easy for anyone to use :D
All meridians should be pressed 6 times each.

Can you still remember the ISO standard abbreviations of the 12 meridians?  hehe...

1. Indigestions?  Diarrhea?  Stomaches and Nausea?
---> Arc of foot, one thumb width in the back of the ball of the foot (do this while waiting for TV advertisement to finish)

2.  Feeling fatigue?  Drained by work & life?  And having stomach related problems such as indigestions, bloatedness?
--->  Cup your palm on the knee cap.  And relaxingly spread open your fingers.  On the 4th finger is the Zu San Li ( 足三里 - let u walk another 3 mile ^_^ ).  This strengthens the body too.  You can do anytime like while watching TV or waiting for bus (do it graciously and unknowingly to public hehe)

3.  Having Insomnia?  Worried?  Got pek chek from work cannot sleep?  Had a tiff with bf before sleep?  Oooops.
--->  These 2 meridians improve body Qi, insomnia, headaches, giddiness, constipations, hot flushes & fainting.

4.  Insomnia?  Sim teh (heart pain)?  Forgetful???
--->  These 2 points relieve body pain and discomfort  (press while u on the bus / mrt watching drama :P )

5.  Stomaches?  Indigestion?  Nausea?  Anxiety?
--->  4 fingers below the wrist, middle point.

6.  Got eye infection?  Neck pain?  Fever aches?  Dizziness?  Painful PMS?  Or night sweatiness?
--->  This meridian also helps when you have body heatiness.  Press and u will feel an aching feeling at first.  a few more time will be ok le.

6.  Sore throat?  Bad persistent cough?

When you try these meridians once twice thrice, you will slowly remember where to press at what occasions.  Make it a habitual to do these daily activation of important meridians, such as #1, 2 and 3 and you will experience impreovements in general health.  :D

Hot and sticky?

Hmmm wat did i not bring? Another pair of socks? Check. Perfume? Check. Plastic bag for soaked socks? Check. Ahhh or should I just change to slippers instead? Ahhhhhhhhhhh...! *headache

Does tis ever occur to u? On a typical weekend, u intended to set out of the house in yr most comfortable track shoes ... And u also need to visit a fren at his home later.... Or go to a temple for some peace n quiet time... Or as simple as a bowling time with yr buddies.  Yet all u worry abt is the sour smell u may let out the minute u take off yr shoes?... Ewwww.... Ya all yr image gone. Poof !

U got me. It happens too often. I had to quickly ask where the bathroom is at my fren's place in order to wash my feet.... N not before I left some traces of smell from the living room trailing all the way to the toilet. (*.*)

Smelly feet is definitely not a choice; esp. in a humid country like our beautiful SG.  But we can all treat this foot odor at the early stages.  When your feet sweat due to exterior heat or exercise, it creates an optimum environment for the growth of bacteria.  Your foot is covered with sweat glands and when perspiration combines with the bacteria growing there it creates a smell.  Eliminate or reduce the amount of sweat and you will likely reduce the odor.

Some of us (definitely me) had to resort to open toe heels instead of the power and killer sexy looking Mary Jane shoes. Trust me, I seriously drool over and jealous with ladies who can pull off sexy covered heels.  But still this does not really help!!  Bacteria are often present on our feet as they feed off the dead skin on the soles of our feet and between our toes.  Sloughing or using pumice can help to reduce that dead skin on the sole and eliminate some of their food source.  This bacteria has a distinct odor that is reminiscent of cheese.  So now you know open toe shoes are not the "cure" either.

What can you do to prevent having smelly feet?  Limit the amount of sweat on your feet first.  Wear shoes with good ventilation and have regular times of the day when you don’t wear shoes at all, such as in your home.  Rotate the shoes that you wear, perhaps on a weekly basis.  Also choose a good quality cotton sock over one made with polyester or nylon.  Those products don’t breathe as well and cotton is more absorbent to help wick away the sweat as it surfaces.

You can also help yourself with some homemade (with love) foot powder.

Ingredients:
1 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
3 drops omhealth lavendula vera essential oil (powerful antibacterial)
7 drops Peppermint Avernesis essential oil (antiseptic)
2 drops Cliincal Grade Tea tree oil (anti-viral & anti-fungal)

Mix all the oils and the powder thoroughly.  Store in a shaker container, such as an old talcum powder container.  Lightly dust over bare feet before putting on socks and in shoes too.  You will feel better smelly the oils too !

Alternatively, you may choose below combination for change of aroma (keep to 12 drops to 1 cup of baking soda):
Lavender, lemon (disinfectant) and rosemary (anti-bacterial & antiseptic)
If you are uncomfortable with baking soda, you may also buy a talcum powder off the shelf and add these oil and mix.

Remember to keep your feet dry at all times possible.  Change socks daily (you should also turn your socks inside out when washing to clear all the bacterial.
Ahhhh now I can sleep soundly and not having to worry about my stinky feet lingering at my fren's place tomorrow ... Sweet dreams ;)

This period of time many will get some sinus or respiratory sickness. Strengthening the LUNG . Not only can boost immune system but surprisingly stop neckache and also sinus efficiently. It can also speed up recovery of sore throat, cough and headaches.

Using hairdryer warm blow upper back is a quick and effective way for good health. Say alot no use. Unless tonight you try. For me After the hair dryer, I will use bryan's 3 oil method to apply neck shoulder....

Technical Specifications of upper back:
graphicThere is a particular acupressure point, Bearing Support (B 36), that governs resistance, especially resistance to colds and flu. It is located near the spine, off the tips of the shoulder blades. The Chinese book The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine says, wind and cold enter the pores of the skin" at this point.1 It, as well as other points in this area, helps to strengthen the immune system.

Conversely, these points around the tips of the shoulder blades are the first to get blocked up just before an illness, especially a cold or flu, takes hold.

Apply lavendula eucalyptus boost the points. Also 3 oil with cream massage helps alot release headaches... Well if u confuse what is 3 oil method... go to www.bryanomhealth.blogspot.com under label 3 oil.

Finding Time to quiet your mind & Breath (By SQY)

Do you ever hope that you can have more time in a day for yourself?
Time forever not enough ? (Money also not enough? hehehe). There are so many you need to do in a day!

Do you know your mind runs a mile a minutes even when you think you are NOT thinking!

When we are awake, we keep ourselves busy with daily activities &  only rest our eyes for longer hours when we go to bed (most of us bring worries with them to bed too...)

Our mind is just like a storage harddisk in a computer, we cant overload it with many things till it crushed & all data & memory gone!

Why we always keep our mind so busy all the time & not allow them to rest?

Oil combination for quiet the mind: Lavendula 1 drop, rose geranium 1 drop and Lemon 2 drops in tissue put near you or pocket. Calm mind immeditaely

Meditation is not related to any religion, is about breathing with your eyes closed to bring your mind (brains & memory) & body (physical) as ONE to stay focus!

The only moment when your can settle down the mind is to close your eyes for a minute.
Let it calm & quiet.
  • In the MRT / Bus :
    • While standing or sitting, keep your spine long & tall
    • Slowly close your eyes & listen to your own breath & feel the air coming in & out of your nostrils.
    • Slowly feel your tummy moving as you breath all the way down from your nose
    • Do keep the breath LONG & DEEP, SOFT & SMOOTH!
  • In your workplace :
    • Move your buttock all the way back to the chair so that your spine is resting comfortable tall & long.
    • Place your palms on your thighs & elbows will naturally bend by the side of your body and relax your elbows
    • Gently close your eyes & listen to your own breath (learn to filter all the noises around you).
Always remember : Do keep the breath LONG & DEEP, SOFT & SMOOTH! Spine Long & Tall!

You can do it anytime, anywhere eg in between advertisement when watching TV at home!
Happy Breathing!

Tips : Use bryan laoshi oil :
Bryan Lao Shi teaching SIA meditations without religion
1 drop of Healing Tree Oil on your wrist, (for grounding), rub your wrists together & gently cup your eye & breath in & feel it!

Lung - Yin Organ (by SQY)

When i first saw this symbol, i relates it to religion, but in my learning path as yoga practitioner, i started to understand the hidden meaning within this symbol, that is about the Yin (阴) & the Yang (阳)which is closely related to our life!
Yin & Yang Symbol

Yang represents Sun, Male, or anything that is Bright, Energetic, Movement, etc.

Yin represents Moon, Female or anything that is Dark, Slow, Stagnant, etc.

So there is always Yang within Yin, Yin within Yang

Our organs also classified into its Yin and its Yang.

Lung is one of the Yin organ in our body, its partner organ ie Yang is Large Intestine.

All of us know the basic function of the Lung is about breathing. When we breath, Qi (气)moving in & out of our body through nose (sometimes mouth) and this is how the energy circulate to keep us alive.

During our day, we involve in activities (ie Yang) and feel tire after too much Yang. Hence, we need to replenish our Qi by resting our body (ie Yin).

There are many ways to nourish your Lung's Qi,  You can try this before you go to bed or whenever you feel tire after long day of work.

If u combine the 5 organs oil before this breathing exercise, u will receive multiple claming effects with calmness at heart and boost skin immune system

Before this yoga, Rub healing trees oil at sole of both feet (nerves ending will soothe the 5 YIN organs) .Than 2 drops lavendula vera on ur palm warm both palm and rub ur neck abit. And u are ready.

    • Resting your UPPERBACK & head on blanket or yoga block so to lift your chest slightly higher.
    • Adjust the height (as long as you feel comfortable resting), allow legs comfortably to the front
    • Bring your arms above your shoulder, remember NOT to force your arms touching the floor if your shoulder is tight.
    • Slowly close yr eyes (you can play some relaxation music)
    • Feel the changes & sensation in yr arms and shoulder after 1 or 2 mins.
    • Allow your breath moving from nostril & down to your belly (remember not forcefully) & feel the movement of.your chest and stomach.

Healthy Avocado Drink ~ Sharing by Alan Z.B

[ u can find them in all juice store but be careful, make sure u dont add milk or ask them no syrub unless dark sugar and honey]

    Asian Dark Sugar with avocado

I never like the thought of avocado juice, until I went to Geyland Bahru there are two fruit store selling this juice. I request without milk.

One mix avocado with brown sugar syrub : HEAVENLY just like chendol amazing yummy: $2.50
One mix avocado with Honey: Errrr , not bad... I prefer brown sugar.  $2.50

Well u can buy one, halve it and add water in blender DIY, add as much water u want , with honey too or dark sugar syrub.

This is a wonderful juice to drink in time of face haggard or poor digestion in lunch. Or skin lost of shine.

If you drink this juice in evening ( do it before 7pm less ice). Than at night do a face and eye mask (www.omhealth.com) ; U will wake up with radiant skin. Or u detox ur body skin with sandalwood powder.... U will feel great.

Even though some people turn their noses up at avocados because they are considered "high in fat," the truth is that, since they contain over 20 essential vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients, they are one of the healthiest foods on the planet.

What I want to share is that Avocado is really good for Singaporeans. Because we always have digestive problems, 3 cup a week is good enough. It contains both insoluble and soluble fiber; that alone makes it very powerful, since not many foods can brag about containing both kinds of fiber.

Insoluble fiber is great at cleaning out your bowels by way of increasingly efficient bowel movements. Not only will you stand a lesser chance of getting constipated, but you also will reduce your chance of getting colorectal cancer, since your colon will be cleaned out effectively.

Soluble fiber is great for appetite control. It has the effect of making you feel full, because it turns into a gel that sits in your stomach for a while when it comes into contact with water.

    Technical Specifications:

Here's a breakdown of the nutrition in an avocado:

    Vitamin C
Not surprisingly, avocados are high in vitamin C, an essential antioxidant that is important for our immune system, lowers blood pressure, protects against colds, ensures proper dilation of blood vessels, fights cataracts, and much more. One medium avocado contains 20% DV of vitamin C.

    Vitamin E
Avocados are a great source of Vitamin E, which prevents cancer, has skin protective and anti-aging benefits, is an anti-inflammatory, boosts the metabolism, and may protect the brain from degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's. For this reason, avocado isn't just good for you when eaten but can also be rubbed directly on the skin to moisturize and replenish it.

    Fiber
Avocados contain a lot of fiber, which helps to regulate the colon and keeps the digestive system functioning correctly. One medium avocado has 10 grams of fiber.

    B6
They are rich in B6, which is essential for normal cellular growth. It's also essential for processing carbohydrates, maintenance of healthy lymphoid glands, nervous system function, synthesis of serotonin and melatonin, the production of hemoglobin, and sulfur and methyl metabolism. In addition, B6 is a powerful anti-inflammatory.

    Cough Acupressure: Aroma Acupressure { Article by Miss Ong}

    Korean Cough Remedy
As  parents, have u been too busy with work and forget the ancient remedies that your child will remember or ur family appreciate your preparations?

Do something. Is worth it. Remember when was the last time u cook some things.

    Preparation:

Wash the big pear and pat dry with paper towels. Cut the top off the pears and set aside (these will become the lid). Remove the core. If desired, cut off a small slice at the bottom so that the pear will stand straight during steaming. (Note: Depending on the type of steaming equipment you are using, you may find it difficult to stand the pears upright and cover for steaming. In that case, slice the pears lengthwise, core, and spoon the honey.
